3 points to Remember your Capacity to Love.

  1. Remember the Love you desire for yourself.
  2. Understand others share this same desire.
  3. Visualize the love you desire to share, as the love you are.

Often the biggest hindrance to our ability to love and encourage others, is the lack of love and encouragement we offer ourselves. I know this to be very true for me; it’s easy to describe from the standpoint of how well I encourage others when my own spirits are high, to how poorly I encourage others when I’m ‘down in the dumps’ because life isn’t going my way.

Remember the Love you desire for yourself.

What does it mean, to “Remember Your Capacity to Love?” This is the first step because without understanding the idea that we can love, we can lose all enthusiasm when it comes to loving and encouraging others. What I find as helpful here, is to remember the love I desire for myself. Take notice of how you truly desire to be loved, and how that desire plays a role in your every day life. I’m not talking about being a People Pleaser, I referring to that sense of comfort that comes with knowing “I Am Loved.”

Understand others share this same desire.

Reflect on this desired love for yourself, and understand how the ones you love share this same desire. The more you understand how this desire for love plays a role in your own life, the more you will understand the potential love you desire to share with others.

Visualize the love you desire share, as the love you are.

The most important step here, is then to visualize the love you desire to share, as the love you are. If this seems somewhat foreign, good, it will make for an exciting new experience. It’s an interesting concept, “the love you desire to share, as the love you are,” I recommend playing around a bit with this and see how those words create your visualization experience. I’m really excited about the possibility of hearing what that looks like to you, so feel free to leave a comment below.

I’m anticipating some are wondering… “so how long should this visualization thing be?” well the answer is based on your own awareness. This is not a one size fits all, you could do it for 30 seconds, or you could do it for 30 minutes. “Will 30 minutes be more beneficial?” lol, well how bad do you want to find out.

The point is to experiment with these visualization practices and see where it leads you, for some the practice will be very difficult. You may find it hard to create images in your mind. This is perfectly okay, like anything worthwhile, it is going to take practice and you will become better at it. The point is to use the images to create some feeling. What has helped for me, is I like to create stories in my mind and watch them play out as I direct them. I’ve found that watching a movie in my mind is much easier than trying to create a single image to focus on, this will help build the mind movie muscles.
